Waiting on God II

During my journey with God, I often run into circumstances where it is difficult to wait on God - wait on God to reveal His plan, wait on God for wisdom and revelations, wait on God to open that next door, wait on God to show that next step, wait on God to show guidance on a critical decision - my tendency is to want to do things my own way and follow my earthly instincts.

Waiting on God in my experience usually means doing the opposite of what our immediate impulses tells us to do. It means stop trying to swim to the surface when you feel you are drowning. It means stop reaching out for something to grab on when you feel you are falling. It means doing the counter-intuitive.

In my attempts at waiting on God, I have found that my trust and faith come under severe attack by the temptation to reach out and grab something on my own.

I suppose nobody ever said the journey would be easy. One could always choose not to do the hard things and take the easy way out.

But the counter-intuitive truth remains that the longest way round is ultimately the shortest way home.

As I read this blog, an interesting question came to mind. "Are we waiting on God, or is God waiting on us?" I agree with your experience of waiting for God to reveal His plans to us. But what if God has already revealed His plans, and we choose to ignore them (consciously or unconciously) because His plans do not agree with our own selfish agenda?

Good question. It is certainly possible that we either can't discern or choose to ignore something that has already been revealed.

How does one know what is coming from God and what is coming from the self?

If you business is running out of cash and the end of the road is approaching, do you keep pushing to keep it alive or do you start looking for a job?

If you keep pushing, God may open a new door unexpectedly at the last second. And the whole thing was to test your faith. So is that what you do? Keep pushing?

Or do you say "geez, this thing is not working, maybe it's God's way of telling me that I should go do something else."

And if you take this route, are you taking matters into your own hands or are you truly following God's will?

How does one know?
