A very good friend of mine, a former pastor turned entrepreneur, called me out of the blue last night on my way home.
He is a man full of wisdom and Godly advice. When he advises me, I listen.
As background, every time I have shared with him the struggles and difficulties ("character development circumstances") at my current startup, and how tempted I am to give up and leave, he has always insisted that I stay put. That God has me at the exact place that He wants me to be.
Do not quit. Persevere. Grow.
He, along with my wife, have consistently advised me to stick around and see my current startup through the end. They are the only reasons that I am still here.
In any event, last evening he asked me how things were going.
I gave him a general update - remaining as objective as I can - and talked about how torn I was over whether to pursue my idea from ten years ago or to persevere through my current startup.
I asked him what I should do. Change course and move on to this next project that is filled with explosive possibilities? Or should I persevere, stick things out, and grow?
He said, "Your capacity is greater than what you are doing now."
Translation - perhaps it's time to move on to maximize what I can offer this world.
He went on to say, "you have already invested a tremendous amount of time, effort, and sweat into your current company."
For the first time ever, he was not telling me to remain at my current startup. He went on to encourage me to develop the new ideas and work on them. I think I even got him excited over my new ideas.
It may be time to start a project on the side and see where that goes.....
